Three hundred and 65 new cases of HIV/AIDS were registered from January to March by the provincial programme of fight against AIDS in the districts of Kwanhama, Namacunde and Ombadja, southern Cunene province.
The fact was announced Thursday in Ondjiva city by the programme`s co-ordinator, Cândida Alcina, during the presentation of the panel on the "Combat to HIV/AIDS and STDs" a proposal of the IX family council, saying that from the cases registered 97 are pregnant women, 252 adults and 16 children.
According to Cunene`s provincial co-ordinator, education and health groups have been created in the districts and in the region that shares the border with Namibia, where people are educated on the ways the disease is transmitted.
Cunene`s health network is made up of four HIV/AIDS counselling and voluntary testing centres, located in the district of Namacumbe, Kwanhama Kahama and Ombadja.
