Tajik Minister Says 55 Died of HIV, AIDS in 2006

A total of 55 people died from HIV and AIDS in Tajikistan in 2006, the Tajik Asia-Plus news agency reported on 9 April quoting the country's health minister, Ranokhon Abdurahmonova.

She was speaking at a news conference devoted to World Health Day -7 April held in the Tajik capital on 6 April, the report said.

It also quoted Santino Severoni, the head of the World Health Organization's office in Tajikistan, who spoke about the reasons for the spread of HIV infection in Tajikistan.
